BOMB Chocolate Chip Cookies
GUYS. These chocolate chip cookies are NOT ordinary. At all. They have a very secret special ingredient that I am going to share with the entire world in a few minutes, but first I must tell you how I found this beautiful, mysterious recipe.
I was in the mood to feed my weird baking addiction yesterday after I finished my online school (the life of a temporary homeschooler), so I asked my brothers what type of desert they would like to eat. Both agreed within seconds that they wanted chocolate chip cookies, and, because I especially love the smell, I was excited to get baking.
I asked Wesley if he would like to join me in this endeavor, and he said he would. I had planned for Paul, my boyfriend, to come over later that afternoon, so I asked Wes if he would prefer to make the cookies with Paul or if I should tell Paul to come a bit later. Wes had a brilliant idea to have a cookie baking competition between the three of us right there in my kitchen, and so our cookie-baking competition was born.
Once Paul arrived, we all began searching for recipes that appealed to us. I kept seeing recipes with the heading "the BEST cookies ever," but I was looking for something more mysterious. That was when I saw it. In big letters, this recipe's header read "The WORST Cookie Recipe Ever." I was intrigued. As I looked into this recipe, I realized that the author claimed that these cookies were the worst ever because they ruined her healthy diet, stole her boyfriend, and made her mother mad for throwing out her homemade chocolate chip cookie recipe -- to be honest, I think these are all possible after trying this recipe with a SUPER SECRET ingredient: maple syrup.
Well, let's get on with it! Without any further ado... the WORST (but best) cookie recipe ever:
-1/2 cup unsalted, melted butter (allow to cool for 5 minutes before use)
-3/4 cups light brown sugar
-1/4 cup granulated sugar
-1 large egg
-1/2 tsp vanilla
-1/8 cup maple syrup
-1 1/2 cups flour
-1 tsp cornstarch
-1/2 tsp baking soda
-1/2 tsp baking powder
-1/2 tsp salt
-1 cup semisweet chocolate chips.
And here's how you make them!
Step 1: In a large bowl, mix together melted butter and sugars. Then add eggs one at a time, stirring until combined.
Step 2: Stir in vanilla and add syrup. In a separate bowl, whisk together dry ingredients.
Step 3: Gradually add dry mixture to wet ingredients, mixing well. Then stir in the chocolate chips.
Step 4: Preheat over to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Allow dough to chill for 30 minutes. Although this step is not essential, I think it makes the cookies taste so much better. All good cookie dough is chilled.
Step 5: Prepare a cookie sheet with parchment paper. After dough has chilled, scoop 2-2.5 tablespoons worth of dough into balls of dough, leaving 2 inches between cookies on baking sheet. I know those cookies seem HUGE, but trust me, it's worth it.
Step 6: Pop those babies in the oven for about 13 minutes. When you take them out, they may appear to be undercooked, but they aren't, don't worry.
Enjoy this nice photo of Wes putting his cookies in the oven.
What were the results of the competition, you may be wondering...
Well, let me tell you, there were times when I feared for the well-beings of everyone involved, including the "judges" (Mom, Dad, and Jake). I'll just share a few highlights: Wes has NO idea where any of the bowls are in our home, Paul and Wes shared a singular butter knife which they referred to as the "all purpose knife" for most issues, and Wesley's cookies ended up very small and chunky, but we definitely enjoyed ourselves, however, for any girls thinking it's a good idea to bake with her brother and her boyfriend, I give fair warning: boys have no idea what they're doing and they probably won't ask for help.
We had the "blind taste test" after dinner, and it was fairly obvious whose cookies were whose. Mom, Jake, and Dad each voted for a different cookie as their favorites, and so Paul, Wes, and I decided to vote for the tie-breaker. We all voted for our own, of course, so the competition ended in a three-way tie. I think everyone knows my cookies were the best because when I ate lunch this morning I noticed mine were already all gone.
For reference, my cookies are the top ones, Paul's are on the right, and Wes' are on the bottom left.
I would definitely recommend trying this recipe if you like moist chocolate chip cookies. The syrup adds a certain softness to the cookies while adding a hint of interesting flavor. As a tip, I would say don't forget to add enough salt. That was my only critique from an anonymous judge (thanks, Mom ;)). Also, the dough was unbelievably good. I had to force myself to stop eating it.
I hope some of you try making these "Worst Chocolate Chip Cookies Ever!" Let me know if they happen to ruin your life, too by making you love them so much.
Hope you have all been doing well these cold, cloudy days. Just eat more cookies and you'll feel better, and let me know if you try to make these :)!
As always, much love and hand sanitizer,
